Arrival6 min

Your first Singapore week

Plan housing, transport, SIM, insurance, school enrolment and a sensible first-month budget.

University or polytechnic

Choose the learning environment, not only the label.

Start with how the student learns

Autonomous universities generally suit students ready for competitive degree-level study and programme prerequisites. Public polytechnics are known for applied diploma learning, projects and industry exposure. Neither route should be chosen only because of prestige or speed.

Then test the progression plan

  • Which subjects are required for the target programme?
  • Is the student’s board qualification accepted for that intake?
  • Does the programme’s teaching style match the student?
  • What is the realistic total budget?
  • If considering diploma-to-degree progression, what grades and course fit may be required?

There is no universal percentage that guarantees admission across all institutions and programmes.

Application readiness

Build a file that is complete, consistent and easy to verify.

Core preparation

  • Passport biodata page and current contact details
  • Class 10 and Class 12 records, or latest available results
  • Official English translations where required
  • Programme-specific subject prerequisites
  • English-language or other test results only where required
  • Personal statement, portfolio or interview preparation for relevant programmes

Application windows and document formats differ. Lionbridge Consultancy Services keeps the family’s checklist and timeline aligned to the selected route.

Tuition support

Read the benefit and the obligation together.

Support, loan and grant conditions can differ by course, institution and student profile. Families should understand eligibility, obligations, repayment exposure and the full cost of the route before committing.

Lionbridge Consultancy Services reviews the current funding conditions and family impact during consultation.

Immigration process

Prepare early, then follow the right sequence.

Passport information, personal and family details, financial-support information and a recent digital photo may be required after an offer. Requirements and timing depend on the student’s situation.

Approval is not guaranteed and additional information may be requested.

Lionbridge Consultancy Services verifies the current sequence with the student before submission.

Part-time work

Eligibility is specific—not automatic.

Work conditions can depend on the institution, course, study period and nature of the role. Students should not build their budget around assumed employment.

Aary helps eligible students identify suitable part-time opportunities and prepare their search while following the current rules. Employment cannot be guaranteed.

Singapore setup

Land with a plan for the first seven days.

  • Confirm accommodation and safe transport from the airport
  • Carry required enrolment and Student’s Pass documents
  • Complete medical or issuance formalities if instructed
  • Set up a local SIM and transport payment option
  • Understand insurance coverage and emergency contacts
  • Build a first-month budget before exploring part-time work
